Golf on Cape Cod Course Review
Upon entering the property and driving through the white-fenced rolling landscape, one immediately gets the feeling that he or she’s about to experience something special. Ballymeade Country Club was recently redesigned by Chi Chi Rodriguez to provide a challenging and memorable round for all levels of skill. The stately clubhouse offers views of Martha’s Vineyard and Buzzards Bay from the Hawk’s Nest Lounge, where players can meet before and after their rounds. The par-3 second hole is a beautiful 183-yard hole that looks simple but plays hard. The green is two-tiered which makes par tough if you’re not on the right level. The third hole is as good a par-5 as you will find anywhere. The tee shot must be played down the left side. Anything right will find the rough. The second shot must also stay left, for the fairway slopes right down into thick rough and trees. The green has multiple tiers, and getting close requires a deft wedge shot. Ballymeade offers the player a series of holes that place a premium on accuracy and course management. A good example is the seventh hole, a tree-lined dogleg left par-4. The second shot is uphill and may require two extra clubs. Trees protect the green on all sides. Three holes at this course are most remembered. One is the ninth hole, where water fronts the green. The second is the par-three eleventh hole. On the tee players are greeted with an awesome view of Buzzards Bay shimmering beyond the green. (Don’t let the views distract you from the task at hand. There is only one place to miss this green—short.) The third is the eighteenth, where water guards the front and left side with no room long. This is an intimidating finish to a big, bold and beautiful golf course.
