Golf on Cape Cod Course ReviewChatham Seaside Links

If you find yourself in Chatham with an itch to play golf, and nobody’s invited you to join them for a round at Eastward Ho!, then head to the Seaside Links, a town-owned nine-holer on the grounds next to Chatham Bars Inn.
The course is challenging due to its hilly terrain, an uncommon trait for a Cape Cod golf course.
Right from the first tee, players begin to understand that golf here, like marriage everywhere, is a leap of faith. First drives are to be aimed at a mid-fairway marker that is perched on a hill, the other side of which slopes down toward a green with bunkers on both sides and thick brush behind. Shots way to the right or way to the left of the marker are in danger of eternal obscurity, either as additions to someone’s yard or donations to the wilderness. Drives straight over the marker, on the other hand, are rewarded with a roll toward the open front of the green, and when the ground is hard and the wind is favorable, you can surprise yourself with your awesome length.
But don’t gloat yet! No. 2 heads back up the hill, and it dares the driver to ignore both oncoming groups teeing off at No. 3 and the dormitories of the inn, their shiny windows and graying shingles perfectly situated to echo the sound of a crashing ball.
In addition to hilly terrain, Seaside offers glimpses of Chatham Harbor, challenges short and long, a pond that comes into play on six, seven and nine, and convenience to the village center; on slow days players have been known to leave their clubs at the eighth tee for a quick side-trip to any one of a number of nearby watering holes.
Fees are $17 for 9 holes; additional holes may be played for an additional fee of $11. Call 508-945-4774.
